ABOUT Team Josh

Joshua Richard Ochoa was born April 9, 1997 in Dallas, TX. He grew up in Richardson, TX, attending Mohawk Elementary, North Junior High, and JJ Pearce High School. After high school, he attended Texas Tech University and was a proud Red Raider.

Josh was easy going, with an infectious smile and big heart. He was involved in baseball, Scouts, basketball, football, and band throughout his years in Richardson. His passion was basketball...playing early morning pickup games at the Rec Center with players of all ages, joining his friends on any court available at any time, watching his beloved Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks, and watching basketball on TV with his friends and loved ones.

During his freshman year at Tech, Josh was diagnosed with melanoma. Josh was just 20 years old when his long battle with the disease ended on September 5, 2017.

The Team Josh Foundation is led by Josh's parents, Jamie and Lisa, and his brother, Jacob. Team Josh is supported by family and friends of the Ochoa family. Team Josh is dedicated to keeping Josh's memory alive, raising awareness about the dangers of melanoma, and creating an educational opportunity at Texas Tech for Richardson ISD students. Proceeds of the Foundation's fundraising efforts go to funding a scholarship endowment in Josh's name at Texas Tech University.
